The Day After This Night: Love and Loss in the Orient
The Day After This Night is a photographic project that considers how events can consume and overwhelm us. There is a very human approach to try and control our lives, but frequently we are left simply endeavouring to process an event and adapt to the consequences.
Whilst my images geographically cover street life, landscapes and portraiture from across Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma, Thailand and Singapore, they touch on a common humanity that transcends simple boundaries. From the tsunami hit region of Japan, to Khmer Rouge survivors in Cambodia through to the decayed elegance of Yangon and the motorbike madness of Saigon, there is an overwhelming energy – both natural and man-made. At one time gloriously compassionate, charming and graceful; in the next, unspeakably destructive through to downright evil.
Our lives at times seem so complicated, and yet at other moments, it is apparent that we are of no significance at all. It is this human struggle to accept either state that interests me as an artist.

Marking Time: Private Memory – Public Memorial
Marking Time comprises a series of 35 portraits of serving and ex-servicemen and women, combined with their memory of service life and an historic photograph. The portraits span a period of over 90 years, with the most senior sitter a WW1 veteran through to individuals who have more recently served in Afghanistan and Iraq.

You can’t know me, I’m over there
A unique and natural beauty disrupted and fragmented by the equally singular and individualistic artist ink, offers up a personal self-determined boundary. A confident barrier that outwardly speaks of a yearning for isolation - to hide, to deflect, to protect; whilst also one that conversely calls out for a reveal - to be found, to be discovered, to be accepted.
This personal tension to protect and to promote is familiar to most. Leave me be. See me. Below the surface perhaps a secret fear that we are unknowable; or indeed a greater one that maybe no one wants to know.
The book records images from the photographic installation piece of the same name.

Pavilion Unseen
During the 1820s, the Royal Pavilion was more than simply a sumptuous playground for an errant king. Effectively it was an elaborate and magical stage set, upon which the strata of society played out their roles. The artist sets out to record the Pavilion silent, still and in the dead of night; unlit except for the street lighting from outside the frenetic city.
